Lamppost Garden

Finally got out in the garden today. Too bad it was for regular maintenance. Last summer I cut down the hedges completely because they were very overgrown. Now they have filled out enough to trim down to shape. So, I trimmed them and also the 4 shrubs in the lamppost garden.

The lamppost garden shrubs only need to be trimmed back once per season and I missed last year. They were all grown together. I trimmed all the shrubs back pretty hard so there are some bare spots. It will take some time for them to fill in.
The pictures were taken after the edging was done, but you get the idea.

Also cleaned out the unwanted trees that took root in the lamppost garden. One of the trees was growing out through the cactus, probably the reason why it was able to get so large. The cactus are very pretty, but hard to work around. It's inevitable to get needles somewhere on you, and I have allergic reactions to them. This is the reason some weeds get to stay among the cactus.

After all this work, my back was giving me some trouble. I came in for dinner, then did some gardening in the house. There is a philodendron that is forever long, and I hung it up on the wall some time ago. Well, some of the vines were at the floor so it was time to put them up and add some new hanging loops.
