Leaving for Vaction

It was an exciting morning as we finished loading the truck up to leave for North Carolina. At this point I knew this trip was really going to happen. All the time we spent talking about going and making plans was finally a reality.

Time away from home and the dog will do some good. I am going to miss my cat, Friday. My only worry is for him and that he will be taken care of properly. Friday needs medicine on a regular basis and can die without the treatment. This is our first real vacation away from home.

For the car ride, we brought along Cd's to listen to. I would have loved to read on the way, but it makes me sick. The time was going along smoothly at first, but before long I was feeling bored and uncomfortable. The music was giving me a headache and overall I was becoming irritated.

At last some relief came when we stopped to eat some lunch. We saw a billboard for Chillie's and so we got off at that exit. There were no more signs to lead us to the restaurant, so we stopped at the Cracker Barrel. What a well needed rest. Wayne and I had to wait about a half hour for a table, and as soon as we sat down I ordered myself some coffee. After drinking the coffee, my headache was starting to subside.

I just felt so awful from traveling and Wayne tells me that we aren't even half way there. This drive is absolutely dreadful. This is the time I find out that It's going to take about 12 hours to arrive at the camp site and we are only into it about 5 hours.

Back on the road again. It seems like forever. After a few more stops for bathroom breaks it was time to stop for dinner. At this point we were in Tennessee, a little more than an hour to the camp site. We stopped at Subway restaurant which was connected to a convenient store. This was our first experience with southern accents.

One of Wayne's goals was to see the meteor shower. We finally arrived at the camp site. After crudely unpacking the truck to our cabin, Wayne and I ran to a clearing with blankets and a telescope. I was so tired, but he was excited to see the shower.

There wasn't much to look at when we first got to the clearing, so we were trying to set up the scope. To our surprise, a family came over and started chatting with us. This is something we are not used to at home. The meteor shower was disappointing. I'm not sure if we missed the bulk of it or didn't stay out late enough to see more. I saw about 3 meteors.

Finally, it's time to sleep, so we can start our real vacation.
