North Carolina Day 4

Today is a day were we had nothing planned. We took some time to walk around the camp site in the morning. Wayne I took a walk through the wood trail (which was very short) and I was attacked my mosquitoes. Forgot to put on the bug spray. It's like they were all starving and I was the only meal they had in a month.

I was looking at some of the pamphlets inside the KOA office area to see if there was anything interesting to do. Ooo, here's one! Cherokee Indian Reservation. Let's see what Wayne thinks. Off to the reservation we go!

The area was very run down looking with plenty of junkie little tourist shops filled with junkie trinkets. We went through some of the stores and found some magnets to bring home for Verdie, who collects magnets from other people's vacations.

Also in the reservation, there was a casino. We went inside to check it out. Wayne and I really don't gamble but we did spend 5 bucks on slots. Our money was lost. While in the casino we had lunch at the Fresh Market Buffet. There was every kind of food you could imagine and everything looked delicious. Most of the food was very tasty. There was even fried chicken which neither one of us could resist.

There was a historical place where you could take a tour and see how Indians lived in previous times called Indian Village. We didn't take the tour, but went shopping in all the shops where they sold items crafted by Indians in present time who live on the reservation. Here is where I found a souvenir for my mom, a lovely hand crafted doll of an Indian. We also found a great weapon made of a stick with a rock tied to the top of it that we purchased for Verdie.

Sad to admit, I didn't take any photos  during this time. I think I was feeling a bit tired from all the running around.

After the reservation we drove through West Asheville and ended up in Asheville's Downtown Battery Park area again. Wayne and I like it so much the first time, we just couldn't resist going again. This time we had dinner at Rio Burrito where they create California style burritos. Wow, the burritos where packed with food, enough for 2 meals. They were delightful to eat. This was our first experience with this type of burrito.

Another day of running done and now it's time to return to cabin for one last time. Tomorrow we will be leaving Asheville for South Carolina to South of the Border. This part of the trip I am dreading.
